AA Tutoring (Ascend Academic), ABN 47 207 450 821 ("we", "us", "our"), provides tutoring for students in Years 7–12 in Sydney and online. We respect the privacy of the students and families we work with, and we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can access or correct it.
We only collect information we need to run our tutoring service. Depending on how you use our website, this can include:
We do not ask for sensitive information such as health details. If you choose to tell us about something relevant to a student's learning (for example, a learning need), we will use it only to support that student and keep it confidential.
We will not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we will not use it for any purpose unrelated to the reasons above without your consent, unless the law requires or allows it.
Most of our students are under 18. Bookings are made by, or with the knowledge of, a parent or guardian, and we communicate with the parent or guardian about bookings, payments and progress. Students under 15 should only sign up to our Free Resources list with a parent or guardian's permission. If we learn that a child under 15 has given us information without that permission, we will delete it on request.
We do not record tutoring sessions unless a parent or guardian has agreed to it beforehand.
We only send resource emails to people who have signed up and confirmed their subscription. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time by emailing sheranzey.h@hotmail.com. Booking-related emails (such as confirmations and Zoom links) are part of the service and are not marketing.
We use trusted third-party services to run our website and business. They handle information on our behalf and only for the purpose of providing their service to us:
Some of these providers store data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. We choose providers with recognised security and privacy practices. Your information may also be shared with the tutor assigned to the student, who is bound to keep it confidential.
We may disclose information where the law requires it, or where we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect a student's safety.
Our website does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run analytics that identify individual visitors. Our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs (such as IP addresses and browser type) for security and to keep the site running. The resources sign-up form is provided by MailerLite, which may use cookies needed for the form to work.
Information is stored in password-protected accounts with the services listed above, and only we and the relevant tutor can access a student's details. We keep information for as long as we need it to provide tutoring, and financial records for as long as tax law requires (generally five years). After that, we delete or de-identify it. You can ask us to delete information sooner, unless we are legally required to keep it.
If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the people affected and, where required, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you or your child, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we will respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first. There is no charge for making a request.
If you have a concern about how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to fix it. We aim to respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
